Zag To The Zig #14 :: Good news show + tokenising houses, shoes,...
Hello all. Hope your week started well and you’ll be working towards a well-deserved break? I’ll be using these next few days to finish some writing. Maybe I’ll drop a ZTTZ next week, maybe not. Oh, the randomness ;-)
In the Economy room this week…
Co-ownership Economy FTW. I have mentioned this project before on ZTTZ, but it is now completed. 107 people from 33 countries currently co-own this house in Detroit and benefit from rental income. All through tokenisation on Ethereum and Decentralised Finance platforms.
While this is quite a neat example of the potential of decentralisation, it’s worth reading through the comments in the Twitter-thread to see the reactions and valid questions from people. Does this thing even exist? You have to take into account the cynicism of the crowd ;-)In a similar story, Nike has patented the idea of tokenising unique shoes - and designs (using Ethereum standards, it seems). Not really a surprise if you consider the prices paid for collectible trainers/sneakers/kicks, but interesting to see they’ve patented it. Bring on the Traceable Collectible Hero Badge Economy?
In the tech room
Love the idea of the phrase 'Just Enough internet’, coined by Rachel Coldicutt, the (former) CEO of tech think thank DotEveryone (founded by Martha Lane Fox). In her talk she relates the Just-Enough-Internet concept to public services, but why not to businesses?
The estimated 2020 global footprint (of tech) is comparable to that of the aviation industry.
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter announced they are funding a small team to come up with a decentralised standard for social media. Lots of interesting angles, but one that resonates with me is that one of the lynchpins of social media (which was meant to democratise content/information creation and distribution) is realising the problems created by his/their centralisation decisions. Won’t be easy, but worth keeping an eye on, methinks.

If you try to predict the future, you might as well be bold and think what the world could be like in 2070? Just work your way through this stimulating view from some interesting people: The World in 50 Years.
You think human beings are smart and rational? Think again: this study found that decisions can be encoded in brain activity up to 10 seconds (!) before it enters our awareness system.
