Zag To The Zig #2 :: the follow-up
šYou were kind. You clicked. You gave feedback. You even called to say you liked it. šš
Enough reasons to make another edition of Zag To The Zig, my (possibly weekly) tribute to curiosity.
You also asked where the title came from.
Well, itās a reference to āWhen The World Zigs, You Zagā. In the mid 1980s this became the baseline for the daring and successful advertising agency BBH (remember Leviās,ā¦). Itās about not taking things for granted.
And over the last few months, I realised thatās what I do for a living: not taking things for granted. Supply a view from the outside. And by the way, that works both ways. When everybody is stuck in their old routines, Iāll preach innovation. But when everybody is hyper-switched-on-and-agile-and-digital, Iāll get my reality-check hat on. āWhen everybody Zigs, Iām Curious about the Zagā.
With that out of the wayā¦ the things that triggered me this week were:
The tech room
If youāre into security, blockchain,ā¦ you do/donāt want to read this. Google made some major steps in quantum computing. The numbers? In 3m20secs the machine did a calculation that the best current computer would take 10,000 years!
Iām intrigued by the concept of tokenization and what it would mean to tokenize yourself. Something like this? A professional basketball player in the US is apparently planning to ātokenizeā his multi-million dollar contract and sell āsharesā of himself to investors.
The Innovation Room
At a talk last week, I used Amazonās innovation model to give an idea of how ādigital businessā is about much more than tech. Itās simple enough to everybody to find something actionable in there.
The ethics/fairness roomĀ
In my book on blockchain I mention the idea of how the technology could potentially help overrule the concept of the Tragedy of the Commons and instead be a platform to align incentives. Iāll be digging into this further, but this is a really simple primer on the concept. (signup, free)
Last week I mentioned the proposed new definition of a Corporation. Turns out there is also a new proposed definition for āthe museumā. Striking: it also includes language about āsocial justice, global equality and planetary wellbeingā. (HT @ Fredo DeSmet).
I started reading Snowdenās new book, āPermanent Recordā. I used to be quite hands-off about privacy, but recently thatās changed. So I wonder if Iāll become more paranoid/careful.
Judging by this twitter-thread on how you should protect your mobile phone, I have a feeling what the answer will be.
The Economy Room
DAI is a cryptocurrency that aims to be pegged to the dollar, a so-called stablecoin. But apparently in Argentina, people are willing to pay up to $1,25 to get a ādigital dollarā.
The Tool Shed
As a workshop facilitator, I love methodologies & frameworks. The Agency Group collected some of their favourite tools to innovate and make better decisions. One to bookmark and come back to.
Random ZTTZ
Next time a Nigerian prince wants to send you money, think of this crypto-educator returning 80.000$ in bitcoin, which he truly received mistakenly.
š End note: 1 thing Iāll be doing this weekā¦
ā¦finetuning some of my tools Iāve been using for blockchain workshops, for this session at Hackages (next week Monday evening).
