Zag To The Zig #3 :: You want more
🙏is my new favourite icon.
🙏to all of you who read/opened/clicked/subscribed.
The numbers are encouraging.
On the ZTTZ-radar this week…
In the tech room
Also, 🙏 for suggesting stuff. This one (thanks JBV) explains the concept of this newsletter better than other: just keep an open mind.
”Now that the world is convinced of solar energy, I’ve become a believer in the Nuclear revival. Check out Moltex Energy just to get a flavor of 4th generation nuclear.”Things that robots can do and I can’t: gymnastics.
Pokemon meets Blockchain. Mobile provider Vodafone drops Augmented Reality tokens (to claim Apple products) on the streets of London.
The Economy Room
Decentralised Finance is (becoming) a thing. The red thread: No bank in the middle.
In the silly-simple corner: a Lottery-app that has no losers. The winnings are just the cumulated interest from a smart contract loan.
In the more advanced-mindblowing corner, lock up your ETH as collateral to create new stablecoin DAI.
This long read argues that Ether is Money. Lots of Zags to the Zig here. The threat of all this: as with all reliance on smart contract code, it’s very early days. As the guys from ChainLink keep saying: the next big hack might well come from faulty oracles.
Let the game theory begin. And be careful, if you were to get into these things.Talking about being careful: 90% of crypto trading volume is thought to be fake. Educate, educate, educate.
The Innovation Room
Real Zag To The Zig material. Paul Orlando, a professor of Entrepreneurship, realised that quite often things don’t work out the way people predicted they would. So he wrote 50 essays about the Unintended Consequences. 🎯
The ethics/fairness room
When every 20-something wants to be an entrepreneur and dreams of unicorn-status, I’m intrigued by the cooperative models. One of the more intriguing things I learned at Web3Summit this Summer was The Commons Stack, infrastructure for communities to thrive.
What made me pay closer attention: this is an effort where academics, investors and developers join forces.
Fav quote: "Gone are the days where a developer has an idea for a new token economy and starts coding it up as soon as the whitepaper is written.”Poignant piece about the reliance of blockchain like Ethereum on the good old Amazons of this world. More than 60% of nodes run on cloud services. Decentralisation not just yet.
Good timing for AVADO (disclosure: friends of ZTTZ), who try to tackle this exact problem with hardware+incentives. AVADO is a relatively simple plug-and-play piece of hardware that lets you run a blockchain of choice. But more importantly, it now lets you run apps on that box that can earn you crypto-tokens. Intriguing.

🏁 End note: 1 thing I’ll be doing this week…
… really looking forward to entertain 20 entrepreneurs about the whats and ifs of blockchain at Etion’s Digital Friday Table (Dutch only).
